Why the SAT Is Making a Comeback !
The return of a common benchmark in college admissions
For a while, test-optional policies made it seem like the SAT was losing importance. But now, the conversation is changing. Many universities have realized that the alternatives to the SAT lack the reliability and clarity they require for admission decisions.
UC San Diego has become one of the clearest examples of why removing the SAT can make college readiness difficult to assess. A university report showed that about one in eight freshmen were below high-school-level math despite many arriving with strong GPAs, which in turn forced the university to expand remedial math support to bridge those learning gaps.
That is why the SAT is making a comeback. Not because the admissions are going backwards, but because universities want a clearer and more consistent way to assess readiness. and as that need becomes harder to replace, THE SAT IS PROVING IT IS HERE TO STAY.

Myth vs Data
"Top US Universities Are Reinstating Test Requirements"
The Myth
"Most Universities went test-optional, so the SAT is irrelevant now. Don't bother taking it."
The Reality
This assumption can cost students an edge. While many universities still remain test-optional, several top institutions have brought standardized testing back into focus. For students aiming high, the SAT is far from irrelevant.
Why it matters for students?
A strong SAT score can help you stand out, show academic readiness, and improve your chances at competitive universities. If you have already taken the SAT, that score may be more valuable than you think. If you have not, there is still time to plan smartly.

A Common Essay Mistake to Avoid
"I've always loved science..."
✘ Why it doesn't work: Every CS student says this. Generic.
✅ Instead, try: "When [specific moment], I realized [specific problem]. I coded [solution]." Universities want proof, not passion poetry.
Mistakes to Avoid Now (2026/27 Applicants)
1. Delaying SAT: Test scores take 3-4 weeks. Don't wait until March 2027.
2. Weak recommendations: Teachers need time to write strong recommendations. Ask now, specify and provide context.
3. One-size Essay: Customize for each university. Generic Essays are rejected.

SAT Micro Lesson 📝
3 Digital SAT Math Patterns That Keep Showing Up
Pattern 1: Systems of Equations as Word Problems
Example: "A store sells pens for ₹5 and notebooks for ₹8. Ravi bought 12 items for ₹81. How many pens?"
Translation: p + n = 12 and 5p + 8n = 81. Solve. Answer: 5 pens.
Shortcut: Two things + two conditions = two equations. Set them up immediately.
Pattern 2: Percent Change Chains
Example: "A price increases 20%, then decreases 20%. Back to original?"
Answer: No. 100 → 120 → 96. You lost 4%.
Shortcut: Percent changes multiply, they don't add. 1.20 × 0.80 = 0.96.
Pattern 3: Graph → "Which Could Be the Equation?"
You see a graph + four equation choices. The SAT tests quick elimination.
Shortcut: Check two things: (1) Y-intercept, eliminate mismatches. (2) Slope direction, eliminate wrong slopes. This kills 2–3 answers in seconds.
